The sun has set on another golf season that has gracefully left with the fall of early snow in my part of the world. The leaves scattered across empty fairways quickly turned to fields of white. There's a melancholic silence that descends on the golf course as the clocks roll back and the last pins are pulled. As always, I felt the familiar ache of golf season nostalgia set in.

This past season marked the end of my 28th year with golf in my life. A very fortunate twenty-eight years. That number is very small compared to the lifetime of memories I've made along the way.

As a kid, I just wanted to golf. A simple ambition. My life since has sprawled out in every direction, a tapestry woven with incredible joy, deep struggle, and the inevitable heartbreaking reality of loss.

Over the course of those 28 years my life transformed, as life does, time and time again. The most profound shifts coming with the empty chairs at the table, the voices I can no longer hear, the hands I can no longer hold. People who were once constants are now only present in the quiet chambers of my heart. The simple truth is, life changes, and people I love are gone.

For me, golf has served a very specific purpose in my life; it is my therapeutic sanctuary. When I'm walking a fairway, it's not just me and the ball, it's me and my memories. The golf course becomes a place where I don't just remember them, but truly feel a bit of their presence.

There is a profound healing power in focusing on the simplicity of the game while holding the complexity of loss in the background. It allows my grief to soften, to transmute into a quiet appreciation for the time we had. It's a powerful reminder that while the seasons of life, like the golf season, inevitably end, the memories we forge are permanent.

And so I thank the game. I thank the game for another year of lessons, friendships, passing acquaintances, and most importantly, memories, remembrance, and healing. Like the people I miss so dear, golf is now done, it's gone, for a while, but I will see it again, the same way I will see them again. Someday.
