Cabot Citrus Farms Karoo, and its sibling The Roost, is one of the newest destination golf resorts in the Cabot portfolio located in Brooksville, Florida. The property spans 1,200 acres, features a unique landscape for Florida characterized by elevation changes, sandy soil, and rolling hills lined with towering pines, palmettos, and centuries-old moss-draped oaks.
Cabot Citrus Farms offers four golf courses — the full length Karoo and Roost courses, and the non-traditional The Squeeze and The Wedge. Karoo features wide Bermuda fairways, expansive sand areas, and large greens. Roost takes golfers on a ride through diverse rolling terrains. The Squeeze offers a dynamic 10-hole layout blending diverse terrain, while The Wedge, an 11-hole par-3 course, features expansive waste areas and sloping greens with lighting for night golf.
Karoo
Cabot Citrus Farms’ Karoo course, designed by Kyle Franz, is situated on the land that was once the Pine Barrens course at World Woods Golf Club, but you would never know. The 7,201-yard layout features expansive sand areas and bold contours that encourage creative play.
The removal of around 6,000 trees has provided the course with its rugged aesthetic. The washes of sand and undulating terrain draw inspiration from some of the most heralded golf courses around the world, but the scale is potentially unmatched. The layout offers multiple routes to fairways and greens, rewarding strategic shot-making. It also emphasizes short-grass recovery shots around the greens, adding an element of challenge and creativity.
Karoo stands out as a must-play while its genius lies in the fact that it will take dozens of plays to ever really discover the golf course. No round will ever be the same, and even that is an understatement.
