Located along the shores of Orchard Lake in Oakland County, Michigan, at Orchard Lake Country Club golfers will find timeless elegance in golf design.
A Gem Restored
Established in 1926, at the heart of Orchard Lake lies its 18-hole golf course, designed by C.H. Alison. In 2013, the club embarked on a comprehensive restoration led by acclaimed architect Keith Foster.
The renovation aimed to reintroduce the strategic elements envisioned by Alison while integrating modern advancements and enhancing visuals. This included tree work opening up the incredible rolling topography and some of the more amazing internal views of any golf course I’ve ever played. The Colt & Alison style bunkering, which is fantastic, serves to enhance the overall vision and pedigree of what is undoubtedly one of the more underrated golf courses in North America.
A Special Layout
Overall, the par-4’s and par-3’s are incredibly varied. The par-5’s offer risk-reward opportunities. The topography is used to full advantage with a layout that works up, down, and around various ridges, plateaus, and valleys that only this type of glacial land can provide. Then, to top it off, you have a magnificent closing stretch of holes all the way from the par-3 13th to the closing hole under the stately clubhouse.
Final Thought
Orchard Lake is fantastic.
