Oshawa Golf & Curling Club is located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1906, the course offers a unique golfing experience characterized by its rolling terrain, multiple ridges, and an overall classic layout.
A Course With A Rich History
Oshawa’s rich history is evident throughout the club. The course traces its roots back to its establishment by Robert and Thomas Henderson of Musselburg, Scotland. Subsequent enhancements by George Cumming and Stanley Thompson have shaped much of the course into its current form. Recognizing the importance of preserving its legacy, the club has partnered with Tom Mackenzie of Mackenzie & Ebert for a restoration plan aimed at revitalizing key features and ensuring the course’s sustainability for future generations.
An Intimate, Rolling Layout
The layout here incorporates various elevation changes with standout holes such as the 13th—a par 4 featuring an elevated tee and uphill approach to a raised green. The course’s routing is intimate, sitting on approximately 130 acres, and various diagonal ridges influence play on holes like the 2nd, 10th, and 11th, making many holes both memorable and distinctive.
The course’s walkability is noteworthy, with many members opting to walk. Despite a few switchbacks, Oshawa is a wonderful walking layout with various golfer touchpoints throughout the round adding to its charm.
Final Thoughts
For the golf purist, Oshawa is a pleasure to play. And if the plans I’ve seen from Mackenzie & Ebert were to move ahead, Oshawa will be making some very quick climbs up the rankings in the future.
