↑ The New Course at Trump International Scotland will start a strong sibling rivalry
Perched on the rugged Aberdeenshire coastline, Trump International Golf Links has unveiled its long-awaited second course — the New Course. Opened late-July 2025, the new layout transforms the Menie Estate into a true 36-hole destination and has quickly become one of the most talked-about additions to Scottish golf.
The Architects, The Vision
The course was crafted by a team led by Martin Hawtree, joined by Swedish architect Christian Lundin and Canadian designer Christine Fraser. Together, they produced a layout that feels both traditional and modern. It is a hybrid of sweeping links terrain, heathland character, and wetland intrigue. The routing unfolds in three distinct acts: the opening and closing holes carve gentler wetlands/heath type holes, while the middle stretch moves through towering dunes.
From the first tee, the New Course feels visually intimidating, yet it is more playable than its predecessor. Wider fairways offer more generous targets, but natural contours and ever-present coastal winds demand careful shot placement. Greens are larger and undulating here, rewarding imagination around the fringes, while multiple tee options make the course accessible to a wide range of players.
Conditioning is excellent. Even though the golf course has just recently opened, it felt deeply rooted and like it has been around for decades. More than just presentation, the grass walking paths are incredible to see in and of themselves.
“The Greatest 36-Holes In Golf”
The New Course is a worthy addition and sibling to Trump International’s Old Course.. It softens the challenge of the original course a bit while still offering world-class drama and a serious test of your game. Together they now rival the greatest 36-hole destinations in Scotland and the world. For serious players, it is a modern championship test. For travellers, it offers variety, scenery, and a memorable experience. For golf itself, it represents a blend of strategy, beauty, and difficulty.
In the end, the New Course will undoubtedly earn its praise. It is scenic yet strategic, challenging yet playable, modern yet timeless. Don’t be surprised to see the New Course climb up the rankings quite quickly. My prediction is it might even be ahead in the sibling rivalry. And that’s saying a lot.
